Iro Iro의 10년

Ten years ago, Iro Iro began with cloth left behind, a loom and the conviction that another way of making was possible. What started as an exploration of material soon became a wider practice: one shaped by the intelligence held within cloth, the knowledge carried through generations, and the many hands that bring an idea into form. From these foundations emerged textiles, garments and objects alive with colour, texture and the distinct character of their making.

Over the past decade, we have learned that building differently requires patience. There was no established blueprint for the processes we wanted to create, nor a ready-made language through which to describe them. Both emerged gradually through experimentation, conversation and close collaboration with weavers, dyers, tailors, designers and the materials themselves.

Every piece of Iro Iro carries something of this collective history beneath its beauty.

It carries the irregularities of reclaimed cloth and the possibilities discovered within them. It carries the judgement of a weaver, the precision of a tailor and the accumulated knowledge of Jaipur’s heritage. It carries time, not as a measure of efficiency, but as an essential part of how something acquires integrity. These qualities remain visible in the depth of a colour, the rhythm of a weave and the way a garment takes form around the body.

For ten years, we have worked to give existing material a new future without concealing its past. We have watched fragments of cloth find new coherence through the loom, becoming textiles of richness and garments intended to be worn, kept and lived with. We have treated local and inherited knowledge not as a reference to reproduce, but as living intelligence with the capacity to evolve. We have sought to build relationships in which the dignity of the maker is not separate from the value or beauty of what is made.

This work has continually asked us to reconsider what growth can mean.

For Iro Iro, growth has never been simply a question of speed, scale or volume. It has meant developing greater depth in our knowledge, creating stronger relationships and becoming more exacting in the way we make.

It has meant allowing our methods to evolve while remaining anchored in the principles with which we began. With each collection, it has also meant discovering new expressions of our cloth and new possibilities for the garments it can become.

A decade is a significant measure of time, but no part of these ten years belongs to us alone.

This anniversary belongs to every weaver, dyer, tailor and artisan whose skill has shaped our cloth. It belongs to every person who has chosen to wear, keep and live with something made by Iro Iro. Through them, each garment and object continues its life beyond the studio, gathering meaning through use, memory and time.

Together, we have woven overlooked material into beautiful cloth and conviction into a continuing practice. We have brought garments into the world that carry the character of their making and the knowledge of their makers.

We have built slowly, questioned continually and learned to imagine a future for fashion rooted in respect for people, place and the living world.

Ten years later, we remain guided by the same belief with which we began: Making can be an act of care, dignity and joy, and that the results can be as beautiful as the values from which they emerge.
